ADVOCACY

Advocacy is at the very core of the work we do at TAADAS as the voice of recovery in Tennessee.

We follow trends and emerging issues that affect our members and the people so that we can stay on the forefront of discussions with decision makers. We also engage our members in establishing policy priorities each year.

Some common issues in which we engage:

  • Health plan coverage of treatment and services for substance use disorder that is on par with medical/surgical benefits (known as insurance “parity”);

  • Access to overdose reversal medications such as naloxone;

  • Opioid addiction and treatment;

  • Trends in overdose rates, deaths, etc.

We cultivate and maintain relationships so that we can speak on behalf of our members to:

  • Leaders at state agencies and departments, such as the Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, Department of Commerce and Insurance, and TennCare;

  • The Office of the Governor and staff;

  • Members of the Tennessee General Assembly.

We also collaborate and form coalitions with other organizations in the areas of mental health, healthcare systems, social justice, and others with similar interests.

Working together gives us a stronger voice.
